My partner has been suffering from IBS for 3/4 years. She has had every test known to humanity and tried various diets including FODMAP. But the problem remains and is extremely distressing and spoiling her life. She is seeking to try hypnosis as a last resort. Does anyone have any advice or recommendations?

Yes, post your question on the IBS site, this is AF forum - heart arrythmias and although some of us will have had IBS we tend to talk about AF here.

Garry - If you're still here. I can recommend the book 'Irritable Bowel Solutions' by Professor John Hunter of Addenbrooke's.

Is your partner on medication?

Has colonoscopy revealed nothing?

Have they tried an exclusion diet?

Too many things are labelled IBS, but it sells a lot of pointless over the counter pills.

IBS , as a term, means they do not know, but you know it is nothing sinister.

Thank you for that. All endoscopies have revealed nothing untoward. I agree that IBS is a coverall word for 'we don't know. We'll keep trying. It may be nothing sinister but it certainly causes a lot of misery.

I found the Turmeric User Group GB on line and make my own Turmeric paste. With this amazing site I my diverticulitis and severe arthritis is under control without medication. I know it hasn't cured the problem but stopped the pain and need for drugs. I had the support and help of my own GP in cutting down my prescription meds which is important

modern wheat products have been drastically modified to produce a super gluten wheat that enables the dough to rise rapidly - forget the nutrition and think of high speed consistent profitable breadmaking. Same with bleached white sugar - all the nutrients stripped out and the fattening empty calories left. I suffered from years of bloating, wind, running for the loo, wobbly heart beats, etc.

So a challenge for you :

Get rid of the wheat (you will probably be amazed at the sheer number of products you will find it in - it is a great filler). Nowadays there are a lot of gluten/wheat free products available but be careful they often have lots of preservatives to make them last longer.

Dump the sugar in all its disguises -glucose fructose syrup, dextrose, fructose, etc. It is another great filler, If you must have something sweet use honey which contains some great nutrients. You will need to look very carefully at labels - like wheat, refined sugar it gets into everything.

If you must have sweet snacks try a mixture of nuts and dark chocolate.

I invite you to have a look at careuny's posts on this site. The interaction between digestion, the vagus/vagal nervous system and irregular heart problems is something for further research.
