I want to thank all the kind people who have posted such supportive and helpful comments. I am still coming to terms with this sudden and unexpected AF condition and will be considering what options I have and how long the NHS treatment queue is likely to be.

Diagnosis is a horrible shock and your best defences are knowledge and a treatment plan. I agree with goldie that the private route for initial consultation with an electrophysiologist is good.

Where I live, the NHS is superb but waiting times were dreadful, so I paid £200 to see an EP within a few days and he then transferred me to his NHS list for review.

If your GP has already referred you to a consultant, you could ring his/her secretary and inquire about the probable waiting time.

Kelton is an unusual name. Do you (or your parents) happen to like Roy Orbison? It was his middle name.
