Reverting to normal rhythm

Strange experience when reverting to normal rhythm - blacked out for few seconds & when came round dizzy & not focusing for seconds. Daughter was here & scared her as she thought I was unconscious. Anyone else experienced this?

This is not common but nor is it unknown. I think that there is sometimes a slight pause in heart beat as NSR returns which may be the reason but it is also the high risk time for clots to be released so if there appears any residual problems then please contact your doctor as soon as possible. .

It has happened once before & so far no residural problems just a bit unsettling especially if it happened when out. Both times I have been sitting down

A friend broke an arm one time it happened and fractured his skull another time. That one led to a proper investigation and a pacemaker.

It has happened to me in the past more than once but only because I was on Bisoprolol and Flecainide and the combination caused my heart to pause and possibly my BP drop as I went back into NSR.

Scary at the time though as I could feel myself going and then come round after I don't know how long feeling dizzy and disorientated. Afterwards I couldn't function and needed to just lie quietly for quite a while. Once I came off that combination of meds it didn't happen again, I'm very glad to say.

I hope you find out what causes this for you and how to stop it happening.

I am on same combo but it didn't happen until Bisoprolol was increased to 5mg daily. Thanks for sharing

Just before I revert to NSR a black mist comes over me and feel like I am going to pass out but don't and feel really dizzy after which I go back into NSR.

Sort of! I didn't actually black out but I was very dizzy and unable to focus for about 15 mins. which was quite frightening. I had walked uphill for about 1/4 mile to church. With a drink of water and sitting still it passed. I think mine was low blood pressure. You should tell you GP.

This used to happen to me every time I reverted to NSR. A one week Holter monitor showed it was caused by a short pause between AF stopping and normal heart rate resuming. The problem was solved by having a pacemaker inserted (three years ago) and it has not happened since

It happened to me. I was in A&E at the time trying the flecainide cardioversion for the first time. I was on a HR monitor and after about 30 mins of taking the flecainide i was talking to a nurse when i started feeling like i was falling asleep. It lasted only a few seconds but enough for my wife (who was in the room) to panic as the HR monitor was reading "0". The nurse saw it too.

I've been out of rhythm since and reverted after about 6 months (i'm on an ablation waiting list) without any intervention. This time i just felt a load of activity in my chest for a few seconds, as if my heart was giving itself a kick up the backside
