2nd ablation day tomorrow.

Am having second ablation tomorrow this time an RF ablation. Told cardiac nurse who did pre assesment about sedation not working last time and she said to tell them that i am going to get off the table because i cant stand the pain she said they will soon make sure you are well sedated. My excellent Gp said just to moan a few times and that should make them sort it out. As she said we are all different and some people need more sedation than others. Will let you all know how it goes.

Awe, that can't be nice! Never gone the sedated route. I'm scheduled for my 3rd ablation next week but my EP always goes with general anesthetic and I have a hard time coming around after. Lol

All the best to you.

I didn't feel sedated during my first ablation 7 weeks ago and kept telling them so, even ended up in tears due to the pain! A horrible experience as it seems you know, so hopefully you'll be fully sedated this time! Good luck and hope all goes well.

You are right it is a horrible experience my consultant seemed surprised when i told him afterwards that i had felt every burn and that when he paced the phrenic nerve it was awful. I will be reminding him today about my last experience especially as this one is going to be at least twice as long. When i told my gp what my last experience was like she said i was making her feel squeamish. So i will follow her advice and moan loudly a lot if necessary. Hopefully this time they will get it a bit better under control.

I too had my 2nd ablation 2weeks ago, and experienced the same as you. The worst time ever. The sedation just didn't work. But looking on the positive side I'm now still in nsr and beginning to feel better every day, so good luck and I hope it all goes well

Thank you. Its scary how many people are saying that the sedation didnt work maybe its time they looked at what the are using. Also as my excellent Gp said the dose doesnt work for everyone and that should be taken into account and adjusted if necessary.

I think the nurse missed my vein with the cannula. I'd been a blood donor for 20 years before being diagnosed and towards the end they said my veins were in my left arm were no good so took it from my right arm instead. I told the nurse putting the cannula in that my veins were no good and could I have it in the back of my hand and she said no. My veins in my left arm are so bad that they once tried to get a blood sample from the vein on the knuckle of my first finger on my left hand as I'd got a cannula in my right arm!

Hope you're feeling ok tonight and that all went well!

Thank you everybody for your good wishes i will keep you updated. I am in a side room with no toilet so u have to go to one of the wards to use the toilet not ideal for someone with an overactive bladder last time my room had a loo in and it was a godsend.

I found the very loud moan worked well but I will remember the 'jump off the table approach' if ever need another. I love that nurse!

Hope all goes well.

Me too and she is a cardiac specialist nurse who has been present during ablations so knows what she is talking about. I said really when she told me and she said she was being perfectly serious as there is no need for anyone to be uncomfortable or in pain.

Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers that all goes well for you.

Thank you. Not had best start to the day. Expressed my concerns to nurse about having to go into a ward to use the loo and disturbing patients. I told her that i retain urine and self catherterisecand was rather curtly told that i will have to have a commode in the room and use that. Told her that i wouldnt as its not very dignified and the room door doesnt lock so anyone could walk in. After a bit huffing and puffing they have found me a loo further upt he ward i can use.

Why would they do this under sedation? My EP said those times were past and GA was appropriate.

I had an ablation two months ago at St Thomas's in London and was given a general anaesthetic it was never suggested that sedation would be used although I did have a cryoablation maybe that makes a difference. Good luck, don't put up with any pain .

I had cryoablation done under sedation 7 weeks ago so it is used in Sheffield

I was told that RF ablation was only done under GA not sedation. Good luck with the second ablation.

All of my ablations I was asleep but only with mild sedation. My doctor uses fentenol and versaid. I can't have anything be for that. They tried benadryl but that sent my hear racing before they could put me out. Now they give me benadryl after I'm asleep.
