Should I see an EP and a Cardiologist?

I see my EP once a year, he took me off all medications a few months ago and told me I will be taking anticoagulants when I reach 75 years old. Should I be seeing a Cardiologist in between my yearly visits to my EP to confirm my EP's diagnosis as well as a second opinion.

Not really.

The EP is an electrician and the cardiologists are plumbers. Your EP will know what is required.

If you are unsure, contact your EP and seek clarification or talk it over with your GP.

The EP is the expert why waste time with amateurs ? EP s are cardiologists who then went on to study the electrical system of the heart so are well aware of general cardiology. They are just better trained in what you want.

if you have any connected/other heart issues it's good to see a cardiologist- they can also advise on latest Anti coagulation guidance etc ( soon to change after ESC has recommended preferences)

I am interested that you see your EP once a year. Mine only wants to see me if I have a problem so I haven't seen him for 2 years. Perhaps this is because I go privately and insurance won't pay for regular check ups?

An Ep is quite experienced in both aspects I.e electrical side and mechanical side of the heart.I am a bit surprised though he is is going to put you on antiocogulantion when you reach 75 years old I was told anyone over 60 running the risk of a stroke and I am 66 and put on Noacs 6 weeks ago.

It does worries me though some times the risk of bleeding.Good luck

I have no other health problems other than Afib, I eat healthy, excerise and try not to get stressed. My EP does not see a reason for anticoagulants unless my health changes. I am 69 and do not want to take medication until I get older. I also think to many doctors are prescribing anticoagulants just because you are female (my EP does not believe this is valid) and because you are 65 or older.
