I had mine done 2 and a half weeks ago. Immediately stop two heart rhythm tablets (it was medication resistant). immediately felt alot better, though tended to run out of energy by the afternoon and often had a nap in the first week. The second day after the op. I got some terrible pains in my side and arm which lasted about 5 minutes, and was quite scary, but they went away and have not come back.

In the second week, started to get more 'jumps' in my heart and some fibrillation for short periods, which felt very different as the beats were random, and before the op. they stayed in rhythm. This is just the heat muscles twitching and itching as they heal, so I am told.

At the moment, I still get tired quickly, some days are better than others.

Best of luck with your op.

Hi

It's good to hear from someone who has been through this procedure and how they feel afterwards. I take it that you are pleased you went ahead with your decision and your QOL is improving. I like many others are faced with this choice,I have had the Pacemaker fitted and have had only 1event in 14 months so am holding out till I have repeated attacks.

Please keep us posted on your progress in the coming months as this is unknown.

Keep well and good luck

I have had 2 AV node ablations to try to stop A Flutter, but neither worked. I also have permanent A Fib for which I needed a pacemaker (another story). My pacemaker has been set to pace my heart at a regular sinus rate and which increases or decreases depending on my activity at any time. This means that my heart is operated entirely by my pacemaker.

This would be the case if you had total AV node ablation (pace and ablate). It would effectively mean that you - like me - would be relying on a pacemaker to control your heartbeat at all times. Having now "lost" my A fib, my life has changed so much for the better. I assume your problem is either flutter or AF, so if that`s the case, I`d go for it. But of course, it`s your choice. Do talk to your consultant or EP about it. They will give you the full facts. Good luck!

I also had an AV node ablation, two weeks after my pacemaker was fitted, and I haven't look back since regarding the af. I cannot describe how much difference it has made to my qol! The procedure was about 9 months ago.

Please keep us informed of your decision and any progress you make as you make it, and most importantly of all, good luck!

How many ablations have you had? It took me 3 to cure my AFIB and 4 years later i can say the 3rd time was the charm! 2 doctors told me I needed to have the AV Node ablated and have a pace maker put in. Would be dependent on a battery and heart would still be in AFIB. Got 3rd opinion from DR Thomas Munger at Mayo Clinic. He said definitely no pace maker my heart was in good shape I just needed the 3rd ablation. I was shocked but figured I had to try it. No turning back once the PM is installed. Dec 17th 2013 procedure was done. Took 6 months for everything to heal up but have been sinus rhythm for 3+ years now 😊 I Thank God everyday for Dr Munger and Mayo Clinic. Get a second or 3rd opinion from him before you put in a pace maker. Other questions. Email is larrikropp@aol.com.

After a maze in 2010 ablation 2011 and cryo ablation and the other one they do. I was under 11 hours while they worked on me. Only 50% chance it would help . after 3 month reducing one of the meds my heart bbq started in again. After the last ablation dr said no more. It really compromised my kidneys and i have extreme scarring that can start at any time mure arthimias. He said i would feel netter with the av nodal ablation. Planning to call and have him put in pace maker first

I think you`ll be a lot better once you have your pacemaker fitted. No guarantees of course - everyone`s different, but I think you`ll notice a significant change for the better. Reading the posts on this website, it seems that ablations are a bit of a lottery for many people, as we read of the misery after failures of single and multiple attempts. I feel that the pacemaker offers a greater chance of a better quality of life for a fibbers. Walker66 whose post is just above, is a case in point, not to mention myself. But this is only my opinion. Anyone who is less than happy with his or her AF lot should talk this over with their GP/consultant/EP.
