That's good news, Esmi. I've been taking Flecainide for nearly 3 years (100mg twice daily) and it has given me freedom from AF and the ability to lead a fairly normal life. Long may it continue for both of us.
I have been on flecainide for ten years and am now on highest dose 300g
I have been fine on it, no side effects. Ihave had A F occaissionally mostly at night usually gone by morning. I have continued an active life, playing tennis, golf and always busy with plenty of energy. I am now 68 and having more frequent AF so now considering ablation.
If flecainide suits you that is great. I think we are lucky
Well done you. I was on it for 9 years
Taken for three years now alongside bisoprolol keeping me on even ish keel
Flacainide is a well known drug, with very good safety. Dosage can be tricky, since too much creates the problem being treated. Dr Gupta said that it is usually taken with a small dose of bisoprolol (maybe as little as 1.25mg daily) since this counteracts the tendency of flecainide to create problems. I took myself off it. For several months that worked. Then I did not heed the warning signs -- I took PIP a few times and did not go back on it regularly-- then, wam, AF that PIP could not control.
If you are concerned about it, talk to your doctor about stopping it for a few days/week at a time when you are really relaxed. I share the view of some doctors, that it is beneficial to come off some drugs for a few weeks, once a year.
I am slightly puzzled why you have headed this tachycardia.
Hi Esmi74. I have been on Flecainide since 2005 after trying two other drugs. Over the years I have adjusted my dosage depending on whether I am in or out of AF. My aim was to keep on 100mg per day (2 x 50mg). On the top dosage (2 x 150mg per day) I had dizzy spells and I fainted on one occasion. In 2010 I had an ablation for flutter. Since then I had found that my AF periods better controlled and I get out of them quicker. I have been in SR since last September and I have maintained the 200mg per day dosage. It has been a good drug for me. My concerns would be latent long term effects (but I could be dead before then!), and the fact that I can only tolerate the top dose for a number of weeks. Terry
