Post-ablation tachycardia - normal?

My resting HR pre-ablation was 43.

My resting HR (3 weeks) post-ablation is 81.

Is this “normal”?

Will my resting HR reduce over time?

PS - the tachycardia doesn’t make me feel any different, just makes me wonder whether I am using up my designated heart beats faster than I should be!

While you're healing yes. But along as its under 100 you are in the normal range of resting hr.

A higher resting heartrate after ablation is something I've seen loads of people report on this forum. It was something I was expecting. I think everyone said it returns to normal, although some people have said it took them a few months.

I don't believe the old "designated heartbeats" thing. But even if I did, a few weeks of slightly more beats is bound to be loads better than the ever-increasing-in-frequency bouts of AF that the ablation has hopefully reduced/got rid of forever.

Yes..quite normal to be raised post ablation. Can't remember how long mine stayed in the 80s but it eventually returned to normal.

I have always had a higher rate after ablations. At 80 this is unlikely to be a concern.

The definition of Atrial Tachycardia is a regular heart rate over 100.

If your EP is concerned you might well be prescribed a Beta Blocker such as Bisoprolol.

Yes, this happened to me after each of my 3 ablations. Your poor old ticker is having to work a little harder after the assault of the op. Mine is still 7-10 beats per minute higher than before I had my ops, but I feel good.

Stay well and heal quickly.

My resting heart rate is around 80 most of the time even sitting down or resting. I too am not happy about this. It is just over 4 months post ablation. It is not tachycardia and I don’t think it is anything to worry about. I do try slow breathing and thinking beautiful thoughts and it does make me feel better but the heart rate is still too fast. I think best thing is to forget about it but mention it to your EP team when you see them.

Hello. I think I would prefer 81 to 43 but I guess you have a very slight feeling of being out of breath with 81. As long as it is NSR its ok and I would wait for your 3 month post ablation consultation.

Hi can you tell me what the normal range is please?

Technically 60 to 100

I would agree 60-100 since consultants are not overly concerned with less than 100.

Re : stuck on 140. I got stuck on 104 following chemical cardioversion prior to my second ablation. It was corrected during ablation.

Yes you would feel out of breath and unwell on 140 and you should be on blood thinners prior to cardioversion. This may be why you are having to wait as they need to get your INR correct prior to cardioversion.

I feel for you and hope they are able to get you back below 100 soon. You do not say whether AF has been diagnosed but if so, I would opt for an ablation.

Thanks, my resting bpm is 140, currently undergoing tests, feeling unwell, shortness of breath, feel as if I have no oxygen in my body.

A higher heart rate after an ablation is fairly common. Some studies say that it is one sign of a successful ablation. Mine has been in the 80s for over 4 months post ablation. The question is how do you feel. Your heart is burning more calories per hour so you can eat more or lose weight. There is always a bright side.
