This looks the same as the Kardia. How is this different...or better?

Don't think it is different. Just USA taking time to get up to speed on such US designed things? Don't forget that we on the forum are at the sharp end of research and know about these devices.

Thanks Bob. Must admit that I was surprised when in hospital last week that no one was aware of the Kardia from paramedic to Emergency consultant....gave several demos!

Sandra - Over two years ago while in hospital with my heart playing up the cardiologist (not my EP, that's a different hospital) showed me an Alivecor/Kardia and explained what it could do, demonstrated it and advised getting one. I already knew a little from what I'd read on this site, so he probably thought I was an intelligent woman to understand it so readily (fooled him!). My EP has never mentioned them.

Do I need a smartphone to use a Kardia ?

No you can link it to a tablet or similar device.

I'm sure all EPs must know about them. Maybe some are concerned patients could become obsessive. The novelty soon wears off though! I've found mine a great help and very reassuring.

I have shown mine to lots of doctors and nurses and very few have seen one before. On a recent stay in the local cardiac ward I had a group of student doctors brought to my room especially to see my Kardia and have me demonstrate it to them.

I mentioned mine to my new GP and he showed me the one he had for doctors to use for patients. However, he didn't seem to know how to use it!!
