Afib,Carteracts and blood thinners
Hi Grace,
You'll need to take the advice of your consultant re this as they have your full medical details but there are articles online saying not to stop unless it's a complicated op.
I am having eye injections at present and they advise not to stop anti-coagulation because of the risk. No bleeding from the first injection so fingers crossed !!
I think this has been asked before and all agreed, not a bloody procedure so generally OK but seek your consultant's assurance.
You should have a pre assessment consultation where they will go over all that.
Fear not. it is a simple procedure. I was in and out in just over two hours and went home on the bus.
I asked about this a year ago. I was told that my doctor did cataracts on Warfarin patients every week. Yes, he knew about the dangers of the eye injection, but said there were ways to keep you comfortable without using any injections. He said that in his career of hundreds of cataracts, only once a general anaesthetic was needed -- and that was for non-warfarin reasons.
Just make sure they fully know about it. Ask how many Warfarin/anticoagulant patients they do per month, etc/
