Hi Bucket,

When were you put on this medication and in addition when are you taking it. The drug takes time to settle in your system. If you type in the search box for Bisoprolol you will find a lot of information about this drug. Some forum members take their beta blocker in the evening to offset sleep/tiredness etc symptoms.

I take 2.5mg of Bisoprolol and have done so for the last two years but it has not affected my sleep in anyway, we are all different and what works for one is different for another. I would go back to your GP and tell him of your sleep problems and your concerns about bisoprolol. Good luck.

I was on 2.5 mg bisoprolol and couldn't stay awake!

I think as we grow older sleeping becomes more of a problem. I too have difficulties and take Zopiclone when I need it. If I can't get to sleep, say by 12.30am then I take 3.5 of Zopiclone and if I go to seep naturally and then wake about 3ish then I'll take just half of a tablet. If you relax and know that you can take these tablets without any guilt as and when you want you should find yourself sleeping so much better without them. People take all sorts of pills so I don't know why we feel so guilty about taking a sleeping tablet!

I find I sleep better after having used up some energy during the day and try not to use any computerised gadgets in the evening. Also a light snack an hour or so before bed can help.

By the way beta blockers such as Bisoprolol normally make you tired.

The first thing my doctor (not in the UK) told me about AF is that everyone with AF is short on magnesium. So I started taking it, along with a general multivitamin-and-mineral (because they all work in together), and I found over a few weeks that my sleep improved enormously! - Search on this site for other posts on how to take it/ what to buy etc.
