I am 3 days without any lasting af attack , I have been alcohol free since before Christmas could this be a coincidence or I'm I just in waiting for my next attack, I have been gradually getting worse and had to get help sleeping but with this lull I feel almost human . Does other people go through these periods?

Alcohol is a known trigger so could well have helped. AF is unpredictable and mine certainly has no pattern to it.
I think excessive alcohol is certainly a trigger. I've been the opposite of yourself Bauldy and over done it over the festive period, which has triggered episodes of AF. Admittedly there has probably been other factors including bad diet and lack of a good nights sleep, but if I drink too much the dehydration afterwards usually gets me. I've not touched a drop since and surprise surprise no AF. Some people reckon a drop triggers their AF, I'm not one of those fortunately, but the days of over indulging I think are over. Try and abstain a bit longer and see how you go.
I endorse what others have said. I went for many years getting AF attacks after alcohol consumption, and since I stopped drinking completely, I have been so much better. Its not easy giving up when others around you are getting merry, but after a while, I now don't feel I need booze to have a good time. There are other pleasures in life to appreciate, like good ( or at least better) health!
On the downside, as time goes on even abstinence of this sort won't necessarily keep AF at bay as it is generally progressive. However, this and other life style changes such as better diet, exercise, avoiding stressful situations etc can all help to minimise the AF triggers.
Thanks for the replies, I do indeed feel staying off the beer coupled with a solid nights sleep has improved my quality of life ( along with the medication ) . I am due to see a ep in 2 weeks about a ablation and although I was adamant I would have the ablation this lull has made me rethink. Do I don't I ? Refraining from alcohol when out with others whom consume huge amount has not bothered me, I rather enjoy the entertainment.
Its a great learning tool for behaviour analysis, I never drank much before and don't drink now, but as you have observed when people drink too much some antics are simply hilarious and others downright stupid, I always leave before they get really really stupid.
