Very interesting article "seasider18", thanks for sharing it.

Thanks Seasider, particularly good for the 15% or so people like me who have Factor V Leiden which is a gene mutation resulting in a tendency to clot more. I found out by getting a leg clot on a 5 hr car journey 18 years ago.

The attractions for me is the peace of mind that it is monitoring the situation as every few months my bad leg aches and today again I am debating whether I go for an ultra sound check.

Heparin is often used to bridge people when stopping Warfarin for procedures due to its short life but I haven't heard of people with AF being on it long term so I doubt it has much relevance to us.

I'm not a great fan of The Mail "medical" writers who major on sensationalism rather too often for my liking. Sorry.

The long term association was also a 'puzzlement' to me.

It seems that when it detects an AF episode coming it releases a quick shot to use your favourite expression to thin the blood.

The nurse at my GP practice buys it on a Tuesday for the Health section as she says that she gets old ladies, worried well and hypochondriacs coming in with the illnesses featured or wanting new treatments not yet available.
