Bad luck but if you need an ICD it is a bit more serious than merely AF so best to go with his recommendations.
Don't be gutted be pleased. This will give you additional reassurance and protection so that in the unlikely event something untoward happens it will kick in. That could be in the middle of the night when HR drops very low. In addition depending on type (they may all be like this now for all I know) data will be sent to the hospital so they will have a good idea about what goes on.
I know of two people who had one fitted. One in his early 20s and twice it has saved his life. The other in his late 60s or early 70s who has had one for years and it has never been activated.
