I have vagus nerve damage after recent ablation and have been prescribed Domperidone for gastric issues due to nerve damage. Anyone taking this and had side effects? Side effects can be bad heart rhythms and migraines? Thanks.

I would be very dubious about taking it in view of the 2014 warning. My GP will no longer prescribe it for me.

Thank you for this advice. I was quite concerned when I saw the cardiac side effects. My cardiologist prescribed it for me. Where you given an alternative med? Thanks and hope you are well.

Yes he gave me something as an alternative but I don't remember what it was. I could actually do with some today.

It used to be widely used to speed food through your system for bloating etc.

From BNF:

The benefits and risks of domperidone have been reviewed. As domperidone is associated with a small increased risk of serious cardiac side-effects, the following restrictions to indication, dose and duration of treatment have been made, and new contra-indications added:

•Domperidone should only be used for the relief of the symptoms of nausea and vomiting;

•Domperidone should be used at the lowest effective dose for the shortest possible duration (max. treatment duration should not normally exceed 1 week);

•Domperidone is contra-indicated for use in conditions where cardiac conduction is, or could be impaired, or where there is underlying cardiac disease, when administered concomitantly with drugs that prolong the QT interval or potent CYP3A4 inhibitors, and in severe hepatic impairment;

•The recommended dose in adults and adolescents over 12 years and over 35 kg is 10 mg up to 3 times daily;

On the contrary I have been taking it for years for gastric problems. My Cardiologist knows and is happy for me to continue. I know of lots of Scleroderma people who are taking it without problems.

You are taking it for a more serious condition than lynnsj63

That could be although I have Rheumatic Heart Disease as well, but now that I have had a valve replacement all my symptoms of breathlessness and fibrillation have disappeared and I just have the vomiting problem because of my Scleroderma.
