Diuretics Ive stopped taking 5 days ago

Hi all ive stopped my diuretics and my weight has gradually gone up 7lb in 5 days Is this normal?

Why did you stop taking them? When I started on mine I lost a stone in ten days so it sounds like you are retaining fluid. I've been told to double my medication if my weight increases by 2 lbs or more. (Furosemide 40 mg, or 80 mg on a "fat" day!)

I would ask your GP. In my case the excess fluid puts extra strain on my heart and increases the heart failure.

Hi they took me off as my heart failure wasnt as bad, i will give the Dr a call

Did they do an echo scan to assess your heart failure?

Yes and mri and my heart failure showed up better than before

Great news. I'm sure you're really relieved about that. I was under the impression that the damage to mine couldn't be reversed so I'm delighted to hear your news. 😀

yes that will happen- make sure you are not having extra salt in anything as that will worsen things but ask your cardiologist asap if you need to go back on the diurectics- perhaps a smaller dose if they think you are improving??

Stopped the salt when first diagnosed, going to ring cardiologist tomorrow

Don't want to scare you but they took me off them too said my hf had improved ended up back in hosp now on them for the foreseeable future a quick gain in weight is a definite giveaway
