Hi,

I'm similar to you in that I was diagnosed with permanent AF in May and was fairly asymptomatic apart from some palpitations and only really knew I had a problem when I tried to exercise. Also on checking my pulse it was irregular.

Needless to say I am now on a cocktail of medication and had a cardio version earlier this month to restore rhythm.

Good luck on your AF journey.

Hi. Persistent AF, like yours means you are in AF, (irregular heartbeat) all the time with whatever symptoms you feel. Everybody differs. Paroxysmal AF is episodic in nature when the AF comes and goes whenever it feels like it, and when its not there the heart does beat normally. Paroxysmal AF can, over a period of time, become persistent. Symptoms differ with people. Not everybody feels faint at times, and neither is everybodys breathing affected.

Hope this helps

Phil

Hi bushy. I`m in an almost identical situation. I`ve been in permanent AF for 2 years, I`m almost symptom free, and only feel slight discomfort when walking up a hill or a long flight of steps. My 5 mg bisoprolol keeps my resting rate at 60bpm, and 2 mg of anticoagulant (acenocoumarol) provides the stroke protection.

I think the likes of you and I are among the lucky ones, as many of the posts here describe very unpleasant symptoms. I`ve also found out that being in permanent AF keeps me free of other arrhythmias, like ectopics, A. Flutter etc. My cardiologist has given my heart an otherwise clean bill of health, and from what you say, I woud think your heart`s probably in similar shape.

After only 3 months in permanent AF, you`re still a relative newbie. Keep us posted how things progress with you.

Good luck!

I am in persistent AF but I am symptomatic and it can vary quite considerably from one day to the next and on an individual day. Key symptoms are heart rate, beats, tiredness, lethargy, breathlessness, thumping.
