I have developed some small red patches and am wondering if they are anything to do with taking apixaban. I didnt have them on warfarin. I dont have any other bleeding , no beeding gums or anything else. Any ideas folks? X

I also have them, but i am Warfarin. It does say on the leaflet inside the box, small red/purple bruising can occur as a side affect. Have you looked at the leaflet or online for that type of side affect. X

Look up Achenbach syndrome and see if they are similar

I get a lot of little red patches, but am on warfarin, and told this is normal. Don't know about other anticoagulants

I started on Warfarin just over 12 months ago and noticed the same pin prick blood spots, some redness, and small bruises on both legs: ankle area and front of my feet. Didn't think too much about it as no pain, no itching but slight swollen left ankle at end of day. Other meds at that time: 10mg Bisoprolol, 125mcg Digoxin.

Then due to increasing breathlessness, lethargy, wheezy chest on any exertion, in March I was put on Slozem (diltiazem) instead of Bisoprolol and soon felt much better. Dose adjustments = Slozem dose soon doubled to 250mg, and Digoxin doubled to 250mcg. Hot weather May/June and my lower legs/ankles/feet noticeably swollen by end of day, very red, and "rash" started itching badly. Put on water tablet Bendroflumethiazide 2.5mg, one tablet each morning a month ago for swelling (common side effect of Slozem) but I declined antibiotics then, to see if things improved. Didn't, and so last Mon was put on Flucloxacillin for cellulitis in left lower leg. Caused by ...............Warfarin? Slozem? Hot weather? Salutary tale,eh? Please don't delay to get legs checked out, dedeottie, if only to avoid this antibiotic.

The Flucloxacillin tablets are horrible, as "feeling sick" (bad nausea) and stomach upset are the most common side effects and I have them++. I am still feeling rough and no appetite, but then I'm on a high dose for a week. Roll on next Mon pm and last dose!

Have a good weekend, everyone!

Thanks everyone. At the moment they are on my forearm and one on my nose where my glasses rest, not itching and after a bit they fade just like normal bruises. I take 5mg of apixaban twice a day even though I am under the recommended wieght for that dose but because my kidneys are fine the advice from doc and on the information pac is that that dose is fine. I had wondered if I needed a lower dose. I am going to monitor over the next few weeks and then check with G.P.. x
