Cardioversion VS DVT clot.

I have been in Persistent AF for 9 months and have been waiting for a DVT and PE clot to dissolve before trying a Cardioversion. I have recently been told I shouldn't have to wait for the clot to clear before having this procedure. I am seeing my cardiologist on Thursday and I'm going to ask why we have been waiting and/or ask him to recommend an EP as he isn't.

I realise the longer I wait the less the chances a CV will work, but I'm hoping that I can get a NSR long enough to show whether an Ablation will be an option.

Has anyone had a cardioversion or know any reason why I can't have one whilst still having a DVT clot?

Hi Gazza

Not an expert but I have had a cardioversion AND a PE (though thankfully unlike you not at the same time). I've always thought that it is very important that you don't have any embolisms before cardioversion. When I had my CV had something called a TOE which is a camera inserted to check that there are no blood clots in the heart certainly . I'd guess the CV may perhaps cause any clots in the lungs to potentially move around? Not at all sure but if it were me I'd be erring on the side of caution. See what the EP says!
