Just been speaking to my GP who is very clued in of AF and she told me they have got an antidote now for Apixaban. It is also the one with the least risk of bleeding. So thought I would share the good news.

Antidote
Hi Gertsen
Well that is news to me, I know they have a reversal agent (not antidote it's not snake bite) for Dabigatran, but not Apixaban.
Plus this "least risk of bleeding" is not quite correct, as I understand it, they all have slightly different levels of risk, but the differences are tiny, and last I heard this is not a good reason to prescribe, they should be prescribed based on other factors, such as liver function etc. Having said that
But if this is true then good news.
Be well
Ian
That's interesting. Thank you.
Re antidotes for NOACs : they may exist but that's no guarantee that they will be readily available. I'm pretty sure that they will not be held in stock on the off-chance that they might be needed.
I say this having been on dabigatran for over 18 months. It is taken twice daily so its effects last for 12 hours. I am confident that in an emergency they would pull out all the stops even without the antidote.
And, just a thought - did you know that there is no antidote for aspirin?
They have it but I thought that the target date for release after testing and approvals was Q3 this year or possibly Q4.
That's v good news
My EP put me on Apixaban because of the lower risk of intercranial bleed, he said.
