Hi everyone, not been on here for some time. I had not an episode of AF for a year and half. Then last Friday woke with bad chest pains and heart going really fast. Rang for ambulance, as I was told do each time the chest pains come on. They arrived and pulps were going at 170 plus, the pain was bad and they took me into hospital, by the time I got there I was back to normal. I feel a fraud taking up the time of the ambulance, hospital bed etc but the Dr assured me that I must call ambulance every time. Does anyone else have this problem.

Dottilind, I'm sure you did the right thing with bad chest pains and fast rate .

Do hope this is not the return of AF . it is so unpredictable.

I would have done the same as you

Hi, You did the right thing, I had something similar 3 months ago which

lasted 24 hours. I didnt ring and now have no record, so have no idea

what it was.  The one time I did ring, when I got to hospital I was ok,

you do feel pretty silly, I know. That must happen loads of times, dont

worry.

My husband ended up in A. And E as he has started with fast A.F. with chest pain. They said he was right to go there and infact said he should have called an ambulance. He has got an outpatients appointment so everything will happen quicker than it did for me.

I hope you dont have another for a good long while. My husband seems to have them once every 6 months at the moment. X

We had a paramedic attend our recent af hospital support group a couple of weeks ago.  People were saying they felt unsure whether they should call for support  as they felt guilty/unsure/inappropriate etc.

The resounding response was "call us for help.  The number of calls we receive for general non emergencies are huge and people with af and similar conditions should call us that is what we are here for".

So that was clear and I found it very supportive as did the rest of the group.  It's our heart after all and deserves a better safe than sorry approach.

I am an 86 year old man and last month I woke up with irregular heart beat of 70 to 170 pulse rate, I called an ambulance and went to hospital and after three hours it cured itself. Last week same thing happened again but this time it lasted five hours and I didn't call an ambulance and waited until it cleared.

Was that wise? I would like to know was it a risk not to call an ambulance? or every time I have an attack of atrial fibrillation to call an ambulance?
