My abalation was October 19 th and then a CV. Dr said I would only be on amiodrone for 6 weeks. It was 200 mg twice day. Now they cut it down to 100 mg once a day but for 6 more months. I am afraid they will just keep me on this drug and this drug scares me. Has anyone else been on this for a long time. Why is this drug so dangerous.

So long as you don't go sunbathing and have regular checks of thyroid etc there is no problem. I know of people on it for years. It used to be all there was!
I have been on amioderone, in the past on three separate occasions for 2 years at a time. I never had any side effects, except for having to be careful and protect my skin in the sun, or long term probs
Its the best drug to keep your heart on the even keel after the ablation, in order to give the ablation a higher chance of success and healing in the way intended.
Long term probs from this drug don't normally show themselves for years. Six months should be fine. If the ablation is deemed to be successful after this period the EP will stop the drug.
It is dangerous because of the side effects - So care should be taken , please read all information that come with medication , then you can asses the risk , You think they won't affect you ,but they did me - Hope all will be good for you , John
If you don't want to share I totally understand but what type of things did you have. I am already on thyroid pills and I am afraid and my Doctor says it would take years to do any damage and as long as my blood work was ok then it is safe. I read on the internet all the side effects and the dr said don't read that stuff.....so of course the first thing I did was "read that stuff"
