PVI is usually referred to as ablation although there are other areas within the heart which can be ablated if the signals are coming from other than the four pulmonary veins. Many of us have had ablations and been AF free for varying lengths of time. In my case coming up to seven years now.

Why not look it up in AF Association main website and read all you can.

hi bob, many thanks for the info, had a pacemaker fitted in march of last year after having 7 cardioversions. everthing went fine untill dec of last year when I went into AF. had to have a cardioversion. I thought that having pacemaker fitted would cure or keep me out of AF. not so. then my consultant recomended a pulmonary vein isolation. which I hope to have in Feb of this year. I'm a bit worried but after reading the comments of people who have had it done, I reckon it should be okay.

As you found a PM will not alter AF . just mask it by providing a regular ventricular rate. Ablation is a walk in the park.

Yes it cured me like it has cured thousands of people. Will my AF return in the future? It might and I might need another ablation to tidy things up. But for now, I'm cured. Cure is about 'restoration', 'relief' or 'recovery' - there is no timescale. Some might say if it returns I wasn't cured. Nonsense! I was cured of pneumonia when I was ten years old. It doesn't mean I won't get it again. How can I not be cured, currently having neither pneumonia nor AF?

I'm cured - and it's wonderful..... Ignore the pessimists. If you are given the opportunity, go for it watchdog.
