ABLATION: hi every one just wondering... - Atrial Fibrillati...
ABLATION
If it is successful then after about six months or a year you should be able to stop arrhythmia medication. Stopping anticoagulant is not compulsory and many of us choose to stay on it.
I was told to stop the Bisoprolol 4 weeks after my ablation but continue with the Warfarin.
Good luck with your ablation.
I am still on all meds after a year in SR. But it was my 4th ablation so perhaps being cautious
I stopped all meds about 8 weeks post ablation, no AF since ablation in Mar 2014.
I was on bisoprolol and warfarin. I continue to take warfarin but bisoprolol was stopped on day of ablation.
thankyou
Hi Karim,
Had a "successful" PVI/CTI ablation Sept 2014.
I was told that I would wean off flecanide, bisoprolol (beta blocker, or rate medication) and the anticoag warfarin. I did stop flecanide but EP wants me to remain on anticoag for 2 years (have since switched to a NOAC - rivaroxaban, instead of maintenanace - heavy warf) provided AF free (have had 24 hour holter once in this time which showed only one tiny ectopic).
Best regards,
Dan
It's not currently advised to stop OACs after a successful ablation unless your CHADSVASC score is zero. That's because the mechanism leading to clotting is not known. It may be down to pooling of blood, in which case an ablation would help. But it could also be down to the "substrate" - effectively the inner surface of the heart - causing clotting through the same mechanism as causes the electrical disturbance in the first place, in which case an ablation does not help.
Trials to try to throw more light on this are currently taking place.
