Go to your GP and ask. Aspirin is no longer on NICE list for anticoagulation for AF.

There are now some new anticogulants so there is an alternative to Warfarin. I am taking Apixaban and there are two others. The advantage of the new anticoagulants is that there is no need for the regular blood tests and checking of levels that is required with Warfarin.

FYI aspirin is an anti-platelet and does a certain job which is appropriate for people who have had stents inserted for instance but they do not do the job of preventing clots forming in the heart which is what happens if you have episodes of AF.

Wafarin and the NOACs (novel oral anti-coagulants) which do not need regular blood checks, prevent the blood from coagulating which is what causes the clot to form which is what is required for people with AF. Your Dr will (should) do a risk assessment as not every person should take anticoagulants simply because there are a small percentage of people with an increased risk of bleeding anyway so an anticoagulant would increase that risk.

You need to have an informed dialogue with your GP so that you understand, may I suggest you look at the AFA site and download their leaflet on anticoagulants.

Best wishes CD.

I thinkthat it was an article on the AFA website or a consultant's one that said that if the risk assessment HASBLED comesout slightly higher than the CHADSVASC then that is noty an automatic reason for not taking anticoagulants as the two scoring systems are not identical and directly comparable.
