have you had extra Vit K in food ? Talk to your clinic about how to get it higher and don't worry too much- could be just today

Because my INR was up to 4 on Friday ( I was in A&E - now inthe SDNU unit of same hospital) I was told not to take warfarin that night - given 5 mls of vitamin K yesterday morning - retested - it had come downto 1.8 kept in - 6 mg of warfarin last night - tested again this morning - down to 1.1 - being kept in so happy with that so in the best place - what a to do ....

This is just my untrained opinion but the treatment you were given for an InR of 4 sounds drastic to me. I have been at 4 on a number of occasions and I would reduce my dose by maybe one or two mg and eat a bit more greens and fine next day.

Although most if us are told to aim for between 2 and 3, EPs at last years patients day said 2.5 to 3.5 was better so 4 is only marginally above this.

I was thinking the same - because this has happened whilst in hospital - who know - looking to taking tonight's dose - retest tomorrow - had a stoke 5 years ago and I am jittery .....

I think you're right and we learn from others knee jerk reactions - hopefully yesterday's dip to 1.1 will be up today.

Many thanks

Have you reduced your anti coagulant dose recently?

Are you able to see my reply to rosyG ?

Yes, I can thanks. My INR once went up to over 6 and nothing at all was done. My anti coag clinic just told me not to take any warfarin for a few days and then go back and be retested. It went down really quick, but I was quite worried at the time.

Yes I agree it does seem a bit drastic but at least they are keeping you in. I totally understand the stroke fear. Anyone who has had a stroke or a T.I.A. can't help but be paranoid about the I.N.R. thing as I know only too well. In my experience from self testing, it can come up again quickly as well so don't worry too much ( easy to say I know ). X

Thankyou for your reply - fingers crossed - had a stroke 5 years ago - feeling so jittery.

Did you go to A&E because your INR was 4?

No went in because of my concern of so much swelling & bruising to my thigh post catheter ablation for atrial flutter - mentioned my INT was 3.6 the previous Monday so they checked it revealing I was then up to 4 - I suggested maybe the newly prescribed Sotalol ( I have read the NICE 2014 guidelines) might have had some impact on it.

Anyhow - hope last night's dose has pushed back to within range.

And since it is Monday I shall be ringing the ladies in the warfarin clinic to check with them - this all happened Frjday evening & over the weekend when they were off - and I do prefer specialists .... Will keep the site posted
