Extra beats

I am getting extra beats of my heart which feel like thumps and are uncomfortable - are these what you call 'ectopic beats'? They have just changed my medication to bisoprolol 10mg once a day.

Yes ectopic beats are quite normal and everybody has them it is just that we AFers notice them more.

If they are as you call them "extra" beats then you should feel your heart beating regularly in between.if that's the case then they are probably ectopics and as Bob says pretty harmless. The bisopropol is often suggested as a way of alleviating them ,but won't in itself stop them. If they get worse or more frequent than you will find other posts with suggestions of how to try and reduce them, although much conventional AF wisdom will apply eg Less alcohol, caffeine, etc and taking magnesium as a supplement might help.. You will find some very interesting discussions on ectopics on you tube. Just google "York cardiology and ectopics" and lots of helpful videos will come up which explain the condition.
