Ectopics with AF

I am 11 months into diagnosis of PAF and lately am experiencing lots more unpleasant ectopics more so after eating evening meal. I take just one 40mg dose of Sotalol daily. Have had a couple of episodes of severe crushing chest pain which the doctor thinks could be gastric related rather than heart. I'm really miserable with things these days.

Try eating smaller meals more frequently i e grazing. Some people find this helps if their AF is vagal related. By the way Sotalol is no longer recommended for AF control in UK since 2014. One also hopes that your stroke risk has been assessed and appropriate measures of anticoagulation taken where needed. Do speak to your doctor about any chest pain.

I thought it was no longer recommended as a 1st line drug, as to be effective it needs a fairly high dose, its still in the current AFA patient information handbook

Agree with Bob. I would actually go to A and E with crushing chest pain as they can do blood tests to see if any heart related things are going on!!

Dont accept crushing chest pain as gastric ....I did, but time proved otherwise.

Hi Tilly 55 - it's taken almost 3 years but I've managed to reduce my major trigger of PAF - post eating and bloating - with the discovery of root ginger capsules and digestive enzymes with meals along with pro-biopics after following the information for 'Beat the Bloat'.

They have eased the pressure from my digestive track on the Vagus nerve which in turn was triggering episodes of AF much much calmer now. Hope this is of help to you - Cathy.
