AF and diet routines

Hi everyone

I am just interested to see if anyone has had any problems with diet shakes etc? I am going to be doing a forever living clean 9 in a few weeks but I don't know if it's safe to do? It is all natural products...aloe Vera based?

Thanks in advance x

Hi Anna

In general anything you do to lose weight or improve your lifestyle is great. But two caveats

Firstly if you are on warfarin any diet change will play havoc with your INR. See your nurse first if you are on warfarin.

Secondly the drugs we take can be heavily effected by some supplements and/or OTC medicine. St Johns Wort being a prime example. So go and see your pharmacist and get them to check the interaction between whatever you are proposing to take and your current drug regime.

Be well

Ian

Good to have you back. Hope you had a good break. Was it China ?

If your clean 9 uses the 'Therm' tablets, note that they have quite a high caffeine content which might trigger your AF.

(the 'old' clean 9 used bee pollen instead of therm which might be an alternative - speak to your distributor about a substitute if you're sensitive to caffeine)

And I've just seen the price of the 'ingredients' for this 'forever living' course. £108 for a few shakes!

Are you sure you (and so many others probably) are not being scammed?

Your post expresses a concern for safety. The most serious enhanced risk we have with AF is stroke. Apart from that there is little or nothing about this often unpleasant condition that will kill you. Aloe Vera has no function whatsoever in reducing the risk of stroke yet you are paying the earth for it. Warfarin (or one of the NOACs) will significantly reduce that risk and, if you're in the UK, will cost you little or nothing - but you don't take it.

It's entirely up to you of course Anna, but are you really sure you have this safety issue in perspective?

in reply toRobertELee

Thats obviously your opinion!! But for someone who has tried everything to loose weight I feel this is a good option after seeing friends do it! It is a kick start to hopefully a healthier lifestyle.

I am not looking at taking it to reduce my risk of stroke.....I am looking at it to increase my quality of life which at the moment is quite obviously not so perfect like yours!!!

The reason I don't take any medication is because my cardiologist has not given me any!!! I am not going to go out and get some just because you tell me to! I have raised concerns with him about not being on any medication and it is not required as I have had the symptoms once and never again so far!!

I really do not appreciate the rude response from you. You are not obviously in the same position as me and why I do appreciate your advice, try and be a bit nicer next time!!!

Have a nice day

Oh dear Anna, how have I been rude? Read it again. I simply asked if you have carefully thought through what you are doing. There are too many 'companies' out there promoting over-priced and vastly over-rated 'healthy life' products to vulnerable people.

You know what you are doing? You've only had AF once and you won't have it again? Fine, I hope that is so. It's unlikely but that's just me not being nice again.....

This is an advice forum Anna and yes, it's given based on opinion which in turn is generally based on experience. Some of what you hear will be nonsense, some will be pearls of wisdom - you must pick the wheat from the chaff.

But is advice only 'nice' if it is what you want to hear?

in reply toRobertELee

Not at all! I know I will get it again! I have been advised to loose weight and exercise. I have tried and failed every time....I just want to feel better about myself and from seeing results from friends, this is what I have asked to do. I have replaced the therm tablets with caffeine in to something else which won't cause me problems.

If you are not in my situation then you don't know and sharp comments that bring you down even more don't help. It's not at all that I don't want to hear what people have to say. As you can see a few posts up someone has put that it is heavily processed and I haven't written back to them as that is helpful criticism not shooting me down straight away!

I think sometimes something written, can be misconstrued and taken the wrong way, I am sure it was only concern.

surely if you have AF you should certainly be taking blood thinning tablets, as AF causes clots??

Nutrition is a long lesson still on-going here....all I can say is 5+ years down the line I walk before breakfast and tea, I buy the best organic food including full fat dairy, a little of everything and am satisfied much quicker than before. It doesn't have to be that expensive (incl the smaller portions you will find are enough after a while) but does take more time.

if you are interested in research try doctor-natasha.com for her general advice on diet not just her specialist work re autism etc. - a world renowned expert on nutrition.

Thank you. Due to family commitments and my husband working evenings, I don't have a chance to get out to exercise although I am doing some fitness dvd s of an evening.

Thanks for the link....I will have a look at that!
