Just out of curiosity has anyone had a successful 1st ablation? Most people seem to have had 2 or 3 before success.
Thanks

It happens but ablation should always be considered part of an ongoing treatment plan.
J had my first one 4 weeks ago and I now feel worse that I did before I started treatment for the condition. Looks like I will need another one.
Aw I'm sorry to hear that....I had my first one on Wednesday..so far so good.
Fingers crossed for both of us.
Good luck and keep well

I had my first last November and seems to have settled down quite well although I am still on two drugs, being weaned off. But much improved since before I was in constant AF driving me mad. So fingers crossed......
So far ( 4 months ) mine seems to have been successful in that I have not had any A.F. since my first ablation was done. However the jury's out at the moment as I am still coming off medication gradually. Should be med free in another month. I am on warfarin for life. Fingers and everything else crossed but I have accepted that it could still come back and that I may need a second go. X
Had mine Aug2013 for atrial flutter, off all drugs since May 2014,get the ocassional flutter or ectopic not sure but I am definately better than I used to be.
I had a PVI ablation in 2005 and it was an immediate success. It lasted 8 years AF free, no drugs at all except anti-coags. After 9 years I had a second ablation because I had a tiny bit of AF returning, but they had to abort for other reasons, so back on drugs now which are working very well. Might have another one if and when the drugs stop working.
Have a good one if you're having one.

(edited: just read your post and you've already had one, sounds good)

I had my ablation October 2013 and have been AF free since then. I think they caught mine early and my EP is in favour of early intervention. Only on warfarin now. Fingers crossed that we both stay in NSR.
Best wishes

Just over 3 months since my first ablation and so far so good. Still on all the meds though and see my EP at the end of the month. Had a couple of runs of AF, but they only last a couple of hours.
Am on list for ablation. My EP says he gives it a 3, as there is a 3%risk of complications, it's a 3 hour op and there is a possibility of having an ablation 3 times. Very honest I thought
I was / am in persistent AF. From the start my Consultant EP said that he thought that there was no chance in my case that an ablation would work first time and that it would take two or quite possibly three. [ie my AF was too severe and extensive]. Mine was almost 6.5 hours in the lab. Unfortunately I only lasted in sinus rhythm for less than 72 hours. However when I saw the EP at 4.5 weeks after my ablation he said that he would do a second one and did I want to go on teh waiting list there and then or wait? I had no hesitation agreeing to go back on the list straight away even after such a short time after the first (and it was still fresh in my mind) although the ablation is on hold until I have seen the heart valve consultant next week (that may have to be sorted next).
