Hi Barry

Re magnesium I think a number of people take it with warfarin, as I understand it may have a small anti-coagulation effect but as always adjust warfarin to your diet and lifestyle, not your diet to warfarin.

Re the others, I simply do not know, "but I know a man who does" Talk to your pharmacist, they are the acknowledged experts on the interactions of drugs and anything really, and they will be able to advise you (ask them about magnesium too) They know more about this than doctors to be honest

Kind regards

Ian

Don't take any notice of what people might say as we are all different. Do your own research. Many of us take magnesium and warfarin and there is much anecdotal evidence that it helps. As Ian says make warfarin fit your diet not the other way round.

I read that Brazil nuts and dark chocolate contain magnesium, so I have two dark chocolate covered Brazil nuts every night. Probably not as high in magnesium as a supplement, but a lot more tasty!

I've taken glucosamine in the past and I had no interaction with warfarin. Omega oil capsules are just a replacement for oily fish, which I have quite a lot of, and again I haven't had any interaction.

I'm not sure the glucosamine helped me greatly, and I've read that oily fish is a lot more beneficial than omega oil on its own.

Hi Mark

Thanks for your reply. As Bob advised we should all do our own research which includes opinions here. I found a site that compares reactions between various combinations of medications. drugs.com/drug_interactions... if anyone is interested.

I have read that glucosamine and warfarin can cause bleeds so I am steering clear of that but will take up my fish oil again.

Cheers all and thank you

I looked at Magnesium and concluded that it is not for me as it is contra indicated for another condition, Myasthenia, which I have. Instead of taking a supplement, I have an soak in a bath with handful of Epsom Salts added, helps the muscle spasms and I believe the absorbtion of Magnesium through skin osmosis is a safer option for me. Lot cheaper as well!

I think it is great you didn't just dump the magnesium but changed to transdermal application so you can still get the benefits. Its an amazing mineral I gotta say!

Magnesium is fine with Warfarin. I have spent a lot of time researching this and have found no studies that suggest otherwise.

I was also looking at potassium supplementation and that one IS a problem with warfarin but - nope - magnesium is fine when taken with warfarin.
