An interesting link, thank you for posting. Did you read the piece at the bottom of the page regarding the use of Sotalol being o.k. for use in certain AF patients? I'm taking Amiodarone, reluctantly I may add, but have to ready for my cardioversion on 12th Nov.

One must be careful to recognise what is relevant to one's own country since this is an international forum. Studies released in USA do not always mirror those in Europe and U K in particular nor current advice from NICE.

It's certainly strange that investigations into the effects of a drug can be so different in one country to another. How on earth can that be? It just makes you a little cautious when two countries give conflicting reports on the same drug.

I don't think they are that conflicting. The report you mention did say "in some cases" or something like that but was a little more specific . It was also talking about a new variation of the drug, not the pill which we know of. As far as amiodarone is concerned this has been a drug of last resort according to the European Society of Cardiology guidelines for some years now. This is probably due to it's toxicity and rather nasty side effects. It saved my life once but the damage it caused took some time to recover but that is another story.

Stay happy.

I have been on Amiodarone but was taken off and now on Sotalol which seems to be getting bad press now? I just want a drug that does not come with any other risk! but it seems there is not one yet?

I took Amiodarone for about 6 weeks - after 2 weeks I started with a sore throat, three weeks started to wheeze and unable to sleep properly - I thought I had a cold - after four weeks a dreadful cough and other symptomatic issues were occurring (too many to list) I thought it was me being over sensitive ..... I had no monitoring and it was my research of the drug that identified the problem.

If it works for you great, but be very aware, is my recommendation, and make sure you are properly and competently monitored - it does not work for everyone.....
