Never been on it but it was the great white hope a few years ago. Sadly it failed to live up to expectations and has been largely ignored of late. If it worked for you great but make sure you are monitored for liver function whilst on it.

I was prescribed flecainide when I was transferred to cardiac care from A&E. That was 15 months ago and although I have occasional visual disturbances (flashing lights when moving from a dark to light room for example) it has not been sufficient to need to come off the drug.

I was referred to an EP after my time in hospital and he said he would keep me on flecainide but would have prescribed dronedarone if I had seen him first. He seems to have a number of patients taking it so it must be ok for some people.

Hope it works for you.

Kind regards

Dee.

I've been on it since November 2013. You will need regular LFTs (Liver function tests) usually at 1/3/6 months and beyond. If you've ever heard of Amidrone - well it's that only less potent. It came out of clinical trials in October 2012 and as yet is only available through hospitals prescribed by consultants as it is what the Formulary call "red flagged".

My GP was only aware of 2 people registered at the practise on it last year - and I was one of them. And it's a pretty large practise.

It is pretty potent, on starting (stopping, and subsequently restarting) the drug I've had some very funky sleep on/off bad dreams sleep disturbances but otherwise nothing untoward. However, I don't think it's meant for long term use - primarily because it's only been in public circulation for 2 years.
