I was wondering if anyone is taking Aldactone for AF, I am on Felodil and Tritace but the E/P gave me a script for Aldactone on Monday and I need to take it if my BP goes above 140 systolic?

Aldactone and Atrial Fibrillation
Hi deelan
Well I had to go and look all those, up and I can presume you're an Aussie as they appear to be Aussie brand names.
OK usual waiver, I am not medically qualified in any way.
The Felodril is what is treating your AF, it's a calcium channel blocker and therefore a rate control drug it will slow down the heart and stop it racing especially if you get an AF incident.
Tritace we know as Ramparil, it's an Ace inhibitor mainly used to lower blood pressure, it sounds like you suffer from hypertension.
Aldactone is a diuretic, in other words it gets rid of excess fluid and according to the website I researched often used alongside hypertension to ensure the balance of potassium.
It really depends on your symptoms, and any other underlying problems you may havem it sounds like you have high BP and that limits some of the choices from the medics, but the calcium channel blocker is quite common (I take one)
Hope this helps
Ian
Hi Ian, thankyou for your reply, I forgot to mention I take 120mgs of Sotalol twice a day for the AF. It would appear my BP is usually higher when I am at the doctors; I tend to monitor it at home it its usually within limits. I have gone one day without flipping into AF... not even a flutter so back at work tomorrow. Thankyou for your response this network has helped to reduce my anxiety a great deal. Cheers
