Having a short break

Dam this AF I am in Rome treating us to a short break before my ablation. Gone into AF so tied my legs feel as if they a falling off and feel so light headed. Making me miserable for both my wife and myself. Besides my worries I really cannot wait much more it's totally ruining my life. Sorry to go on but so fed up.

LIve every day as your last as one day you will be right! Not long to wait now, just pace yourself. Toss a coin in the Trevi and wish. If you explain all to your wife she will cope OK so relax and enjoy the food.

Sorry to hear that Steve.

Has it been very hot today? Do you think you could have got a bit dehydrated and/or have you had a very cold drink?

I know I don't know anything about your AF or what sets if off but could any of those have been responsible ?

Have you ever tried doing any of these three things to stop it in its tracks?

1). Plunge your face into a basin with ice water.

2). Apply a cold compress to your neck

Or.... 3) Do the Valsalva Maneuver (Sit down and bend forward at the waist - hold your breath and strain as if blowing up a balloon)

Coughing hard can work for me, it gives short sharp jolts from the lungs to the heart.

An Ambulance man who attended me got me to do the Valsalva

Manouver and my AF stopped shortly afterwards.

Don't let it spoil things for you. (I know that's easier said than done)

Rome is great place for a short break.

Thanks for the kind words I think it was the long tiring trip and lack of sleep may have been the trigger.

Let me first say how very very sorry that your AF is clouding your trip to Rome ...

I too am on an Ablation waiting list and today my legs are hurting so badly with tiredness I don't know what to do with myself...

Like yourself a few months ago I was scared of even thinking of an Ablation and was convinced meds would keep me symptom free for the rest of my life....(yes Bob before you say anything I should have listened to you sooner my friend) however,if I had a phone call this minute to go to the hospital tonight I would be off like a shot...

Stay strong Steve and enjoy Rome and maybe a little self massage on the legs tonight may help.

Hi Carol it never ceases to amazing me on those days when everything is against you and this AF is hell bent in spoiling your time people on this forum gives such reassurance that you are not alone.

Corragio! Hang in there- it Will pass, it always does ans when you Côme out If it at least you Will be in Rome! I felt these évents happened so i'd be certain about the choice to sign up for thé ablation. Hope you get relief soon! Rest well.

Hi Steve - Sorry to hear you are having to put up with an AF attack while on holiday. Its so disappointing and I know when it's happened to me on holiday I've felt like a real wet blanket. I too would recommend the procedures Failing to Pieces has recommended. Perhaps try to reduce your amount of walking too i.e. go on some organised trips that involve more sitting than walking. Big healing hug.

Hi Jean thank you so much for your support, but I think I will have to bite the bullet today as it's touring day on foot but we will try and catch the metro where we can. A slow walking day I thinks.

I know being overtired sets me off! as you've noticed the tenacity of Rome- it will be there post ablation! nothing better than sitting in piazzas in Rome.

Hi Steve. Sorry to hear this is bothering you on your holidays. Hang on there and moan to us - you'll have your ablation soon hopefully and can get on with the rest of your life. I'm just off out to take a group of ladies running that I do every week. I used to really look forward to it, bit as I sit here typing, I'm dreading it as I know the AF will kick in and I'll have to walk mostly. The whole thing is horrid.

The first time I experienced AF, I was on holiday in France. When I got home and saw a cardiologist he asked me whether I had been eating and drinking a lot (of course I had) and then said, oh well that won't have caused it! So I hope you have enjoyed yourself and don't feel it's a self-inflicted wound!

Hi Steve, sorry to hear of your problems, yesterday I had something similar when out for my morning constitutional, my legs felt heavy and for about a minute my left leg felt as if it didn't belong to me and had a mind of its own, tow or three minutes later it was back to normal, very strange feeling. Not sure if it was AFIB or side affects of my medication. Chin up Steve and hope things get better soon.
