Guys I am really worried in that I have been in AF for over 48 hrs. Normally I am in AF for about 36 hours so concerned how long this episode will last and not a sign that I have gone into permanent AF

Extended perion in AF
What is it normally and how are you feeling?
Normally around 50 feeling the normal stuff aching legs, headache, tied and grumpy
Right, so that is a fairly high heart rate for you. If it is worrying you I would call someone medical for advice. Twice in the last year I've had my heart rate at a constant 120ish and had to wait 6 weeks like that each time before I could have cardioversions. I felt really ill all throughout and had ECG's weekly and was seen by an arrithymia nurse. I assume you are on warfarin? I don't think it's anything to worry about too much, but I would seek telephone advice just for re-assurance as I'm not medically trained. Just advising from my personal experiences. Let us know how you get on.
I once asked my GP at what heart rate should I go to hospital and I believe he said something like over 135. Before my first ablation up to a hundred didn't bother me too much, but now after my second I feel ill if it goes over 90. My usual heart rate is 62-68.
Thanks Jean I have my first ablation booked for June a bit concerned but hopefully it will get rid of this thing.
Hi Steve,
I dont think it suggests that you have gone into permanent AF rather that you are having a particularly longer episode. It may be a good idea to contact your doctor after the bank holiday for advice even if the episode has ceased. However if you are particularly worried and there is no sign of it stopping try A & E if in any doubt.
As you will no doubt know stress and worry exacerbates the condition. Do you have any techniques to hand that you try when in AF and worried about it ie breathing or relaxation exercises.
Thinking of you.
Regards
Dee.
I've always run at 70-80bpm before I was diagnosed with recurrent fast AF. Then my heart used to run at 150-190bpm with associated symptoms which required admission.
If you're worried about it, don't hesitate and get yourself looked at.
Hi All
Back to normal today that was a long episode. Thank you again for all the support.
Great to hear it's ended Steve, sometimes I think I make my own episodes longer by worrying about them, but I'm darned if I can stop myself doing that!
It is all so personal, glad to hear your back in sinus. I can go up to 180-200 for 10-12 hours and they now say I don't have to go to the hospital unless I want to, as they never know what to do with me but put me in a bed in the corner. Now I've never gone over 12-15 hours. My understanding is I can wait up to 48 hours although I wouldn't wait that long.
Hell isn't it?. Hope things stay calm for you.
I had my longest ever episode in February - it went on for thirty seven hours and I went to my GP about an hour before I reverted to sinus mode. My heart rate was around 75/80 (it tends to go as high as about 90/95 when an episode starts and then drops down to that lower rate fairly quickly). After consulting a colleague, the GP told me that my AFib was not a problem as long as my heart rate stayed as it was and he said, because I was on Warfarin I could carry on in AFib indefinitely at a rate like that , but he did say he'd make an appointment for me to see a cardiologist (I'm still waiting for an appointment) because it had been more than five years since my last appointment with one. I was very surprised by the advice I got from the GP's and intend bringing what they said up with the cardiologist (I'll also ask about seeing an EP) when I see them.
Glad to see Steve's episode ended as well.
Glad to hear your episode ended. But I have to say that my cardiologist told me he would never let me go longer than 48 hours in AFib. He would then do cardio version. I had cryo ablation done a year ago in March and have had not one AFib episode. I did have atrial flutter one time, but am doing good. Hope all goes well for you. Don't let yourself get worn out from an episode. Go to the hospital. I did not go to the hospital one time and ended up having a seizure. Not enough blood going to my brain. The AFib was causing the blood to pool in my heart. So, do not hesitate to seek medical help. I am now on seizure meds for life. Good luck.
Hi there, I have about 2 episodes a day every day but because they are not constant I am still classed as PAfib and not persistent or permanent ?
