Two weeks ago my INR was 2.4, great that I thought. Nurse then put me to two weeks and today my INR 1.6 blood pressure sky high. I feel lousey in the morning and I put it down to blood pressure, but about midday I feel fine. I dont know which is worse blood pressure or low INR. Its getting me dowm now and I wish to god I knew what was going on.

What a blow Dottilind! It's no fun at all if your INR won't behave and you suddenly find that happy little feeling of satisfaction when you are nicely in range has been snatched away. All the effort seems to be for no gain at all and it's just a mountain to climb with a lot of uphill and then a downhill bit which just erodes your success and your sense of well being. But may you actually be feeling low because of your blood pressure being high - although you did say a while ago that you have not felt good since you started on warfarin?

There are lots of ways of helping to lower blood pressure - perhaps your GP might have a think about what you are taking and what alternatives might assist.

I am working on lowering my blood pressure by swimming- don't know if you are able to exercise?

Self testing while on warfarin removes a lot of the problems but the machine is expensive- £30It does mean you can keep an eye on your INR and let the clinic know the results and adjust the dose.

So sorry to hear that Dottilind, INR can be so difficult to keep stable for some people, perhaps you could persuade your GP to put you on one of the new anti-coagulants? That would remove the problem entirely... Are you being treated for your high blood pressure?

I hit my range with my INR about 3 months into my therapy. It was 2.3.... 3 weeks later it had dropped to 1.6 where it has remained inexplicably for the last month. No one is really sure why.

I totally understand your frustration and bewilderment, I am at that point right now.

It's so annoying to be taking warfarin and feeling you don't have the benefit of being in range.
