my consultant is going to fit me with a pace maker.. any replies
Hi peterjames,Had mine fit last June,no problem, takes about 30 mins, just a local anesthetic and very little pain if any. You,ll probably have an over night stay in hospital but it,s certainly nothing to worry about, all the best.
Peter I was fitted with a pacemaker last June, the best thing that has happened to me I am feeling tons better and feel I now have a future
My husband had one fitted Jan, as above, local anaesthetic was kept overnight for observation as he is 80, couldn't drive for a week, now firing on 8 cylinders!
Morning Peter, I am having a pacemaker fitted on the 30th April and I know it sounds silly but having read all the posts, I am quite looking forward to it! Anything is better than going through life with AFib.
Good luck, you will be fine

Poor you, 12gettingthere, I agree that it is luck of the surgeon. Hope you are feeling better now.

thanks for your assurances and good wishes feeling better already ..regards peter
Pacemakers do not stop or cure A/F. Please go on line and read why they are fitted. Also there are three types of pacemaker, to be found on the NHS site.I am surprised your consultant has not given you a full reason as to why he is fitting one. Please correct me if I am wrong.I was told mine was fitted because my heart stopped in my sleep a number of times, but when I asked about my A/F that I have had for 14years he told me, no the pacemaker would not help with that, but said an Ablation could.
I had a pacemaker inserted a couple of years ago under sedation. No pain at all, just a feeling of pressure. I was quite conscious during the procedure, but couldn't move at all, strange feeling. The worst was having my face covered to avoid breathing over the operation site.
I think it took about 1 1/2 hours, and stayed overnight in hospital. I am glad to have it as I feel that it keeps me safe. It won't cure the AF but it will stop my heart from beating too slowly. Subsequently had 3 ablations, and am now AF free, although still on Bisoprolol and Warfarin and Simvastatin and Ramipril. Hope all goes well for you.
