Does anyone suffer with PAF and angina?

I have had PAF for about 10 years, only one or two episodes a year but a lot of ectopic beats. Recently when doing moderate exercise I get a dull pain in the left side of my chest which goes after about an hour of resting but leaves me very tired and wobbly. What should I do? Cheers! Don

Go see your Doctor and ask for referral to a cardiologist for checks. Prolonged AF may have done something unpleasant to your heart so a few checks and maybe an angiogram would be a good idea. Don't delay this. It may be something else but good to check.

I have PAF with constant aches on left side. Have now been told that I have an enlarged left atrium. They aren't going to treat it apart from drugs - Rampril & Diltiazam. I agree with BobD - get it checked but in the mean time, don't worry unduly.

Hi

Chest pain was one of the symptoms I was told to get to a/e with . Are you in af when you get the pain.? You should tell you gp what is happening. If it was me I would ring an ambulance while I had the pain and at least get an ECG done.

All the best

Hi Lofty, PAF and angina are not always related. The AF is unlikely to be the problem. During my tests it was found that I had partially blocked blood vessels on the left side of the heart. This leads to a lack of oxygen and tiredness, angina symptoms, etc. If left untreated can result in heart attacks when fully blocked. I had stents fitted to reduce the blockage from 70% blocked to 30%. Don't ignore these symptoms see your doctor and get it checked out.

Ken

Hi. I went to my GP who said that I should go to casualty (sic his word) i.e A&E but I was not to drive. My wife took me the 10 miles to our local hospital and after about half an hour was triaged. They took bloods, did an ecg and blood pressure (from my right arm!). All came back normal ( troponin levels normal, ecg in sinus rhythm and bp 129/79 so not a heart attack. The A&E doctor said that the pain was likely to be early onset angina but further tests should be conducted, therefore I should see my GP in a weeks time and asked to be referred to a cardiologist (plumber not electrician). I will await my next tests. A7E doc, said to take 75mg aspirin every day in the meantime. Cheers! Lofty

Yes, but not what you describe, I get a heavy/squeezing feeling in my upper chest and pain in my throat. Tests showed my heart/arteries were fine so I was told it was caused by a spasm in the arteries which tends to affect women! Even so I was advised to ask for medical advice if it happened, and I'm sure you should.

Interesting reading and i am in the same boat, Trop levels have been raised on my visits but as they said not enough to inicate a heart attack, with recent news on the TV i now query that/ Have you have any changes progress etc. I am 52 and Male and it took a lot of questioning and research to confrim my Angina as Prinzmetal micro and macro spasms.
