Holiday abroad

We are wanting to have a holiday in the sun. Where in Europe would you recommend which is heart friendly in the case of an AFib episode needing hospital care. Any experiences good and bad would be helpful or places where you have had good care abroad. Also any experience of cardiac care while on a cruise.

Thanks

Dee.

Spanish hospitals are usually excellent. I have PAF and my husband had A fib for the first time while we were in Lanzarote. I know it's not for everyone being volcanic and geared up for tourists but we love it. He was treated at the private hospital "Hospiten" near Puerto del Carmen. Admitted in the early hours of a Saturday morning. Had ECG, drip ~& treatment with diuretics for high B/P . Then the next day had holter monitor chest X ray and medication; and an echo cardiogram Sunday am done by consultant. More than would have happened in UK on a weekend. Insurance co. were threatening that if he was in for more than a day he'd have to move to public hospital. Evidently good but not always English speaking staff. Hospiten have 24 hour translators available and are used to dealing with holiday Insurance Companies. We did have to pay by credit card for first 24 hours treatment 2,000 euros but that was returned as soon as insurance paid up. The hospital contacted us once home and couldn't have been more helpful re admin side. Have been watching programme on TV re holiday emergencies and Majorca looked good too with liaison staff to help the tourists.

My daughter lives in Canada,so wanted to go out there, but as its such a long flight, the thought of having an episode of PAF on the plane as they last up to twenty hours and can be severe,Has put a stop to that,so good luck to you.

Thank you both for your replies. I like all things Spanish so will try one of your suggestions, thank you. Your husband had good treatment by the sound of it which is good news unlike the long wait here on the NHS.

Yes I agree a long flight to Canada would have been a big ask for you. Europe is more manageable just the language issue.

I know holidays are well down the list in life to have compromise on, it's just that we have worked hard all our lives and our plan was spending some of our savings on relaxing and seeing wonderful places. Small thing in the scheme of things though I realise.

Thanks.

Dee.
