Had three cardiac ablations. Last one symptom and med free for two years. Always converted with IV meds in under 30 mintues. This time was in rapid afib for 13 days even on meds. Back on Cardizem, Multaq and Xarelto. Had to be cardioverted last week. Will see new EP Wednesday to discuss 4th ablation.

Afib returned after two years
I'm sorry, it's annoying isn't it? I wonder what sparked that off? I've had three ablations and I am a lot better but it comes and goes.
Rotten luck! I've never had cardioversion or ablation, but my af started in 1996.It was treated with atenolol, and went away for years! I was so disappointed when it started up again, so I know how you feel. Good luck with the next ablation.

Hoping you get some relief as soon as possible. Best wishes for your appt on wednesday.
My cardiologist (and my persistent reading of medical journals) suggests that as we get older, the areas that cause afib in our heart gets bigger and/or more active. So the abnormal tissue that creates the signals is more persistent. Sucks for us (I have it too, although only once so far and it went away on its own) because it means that while you can control it for a time, once you have it you are likely to have it more. I guess this is a bit of depressing post, but I don't think it's anything you do or don't do -- I just think our hearts will do this as we age and -- at least -- if we know we can then be more aggressive with keeping on the anti-clotting stuff (which also stinks but less so than a stroke, my mother never knew about afib until the first big stroke and that is not a great way to find out). What does your cardiologist say about the idea that it is going to be more persistent as you age? There's an argument for going on blood thinners permanently.
