Luckily caught the A.F. but also showed long Q.T. as well. G.P. in a bit of a panic then and told me to take the low dose of bisoprolol that I had previously been told not to take because of 1st degree heart block. He said I was complicated and he was glad I was seeing the E.P. soon. I'm not usually a panicky person but have come home googled Long Q.T. and now I'm sitting here expecting to die at any moment.Know I shouldn't have googled it but couldn't resist. HELP!!
Just been for E.C.G. prior to a priva... - Atrial Fibrillati...
Just been for E.C.G. prior to a private appointment with E.P.
Can the EP appointment be brought forward if you explain how you feel? Maybe you could contact the EP's secretary direct? Just contacted mine yesterday and she was great. I just phoned the hospital and asked for his secretary. Can cut out a lot of waiting.
I'd be very careful reading things on the interweb or in books as a lot of conditions tell you of terrible outlooks which in reality may not even apply to you or are not of immediate concern. Need to see the specialist really.
GP's are obviously not specialists and can panic. Mine did when I was first diagnosed with very symptomatic AF; he went white as a sheet. His nurse rushed me through to the back room for an ECG and kept on dropping the wires in her anxiety. Of course that made me feel great! But in hindsight, at least they were taking it seriously.
Thanks. I have managed to bring forward my appointment to 12th December so not long to wait now. Am taking some deep breaths and hoping for the best. Really appreciate your response x
After a routine ECG my GP told me that she couldn't increase the Soltolol as my heart "rested between beats." I was put back on to atenolol and booked in to see a Cardiologist. He did an ECG when I was in full E/F so he saw my heart at its worst. I asked about the resting and he denied that there was a problem. He prescribed Bisoprolol and I'm now up to 10 (max) which is 0K now that I'm used to it and I've just got my appointment to see EP in Jan. I hope that they get you sorted out soon, meantime STAY CALM.
Thank you so much. I do feel reassured by both your posts. Am trying to stay calm and fill my time between now and seeing the E.P. so I can't do too much thinking !! What will be Will be and all that. Once again thank you.x
I would say the same - internet is often giving worst case scenarios that may not apply to you. Also, GPS often misread ecgs so keep calm and good your ep appointment brought forward. Wishing you all the best. Marie
In my early days of AF I went to A&E. The doctors there told me my ECG had shown what they thought was a blood clot in either my heart or lungs. My cardiologist was called from his clinic downstairs and he said that it was nothing and quite normal for people with AF. I was sent home.
Wait for the experts opinion. Keep busy!

Thank you .I am feeling much better now thanks to all on here. My calendar is full! Take care.x
It is amazing how they can get it so wrong.
Every time I go to the local ER they hit the panic button - I always tell them to look up my history but get ignored.
The GPs are worse. When trying to get a prescription for Bicor I've been told it can't be prescribed. Here they have to get a special authorisation for it.
Crazy stuff when my ticker is reliant on it.
I now question everything which upsets the incompetent ones but not the ones that know - I find they encourage it

Well I see the E.P. tomorrow but in the meantime I have been taking low dose of bisoprolol for a week. I had been in A.F. continuously for 3weeks and after 2 days on the meds... it stopped and is still at bay! Tablets make me feel a little tired and a little out of breath but if they are what stopped the A.F. I don't care. Will wait and see what E.P. says tomorrow but for now I am feeling much better.
