Re bisoprolol: Hi everyone,,,sorry for... - Atrial Fibrillati...
Re bisoprolol
I sympathise. I am on hormone implants to kill of any stray cancer cells post prostate surgery and I get hot flushes a lot. Keeps me in touch with my feminine side. LOL
Bisopropol usually seems to give people cold extremities but since I have never been on it I can't comment.

I'm on Bisoprolol 5mg and no hot flushes, but then I'm past the menopause... Maybe if you're in it, it's different...
Me too...past that date by a few years lol. But am on Bisoprolol and just feel tired.

I was in Bisoprolol for a while and did have hot flushes (male, 61 - post-menopause!) but usually on attempting exercise and accompanied by sweating so not sure if that is the same as you've experienced. Certainly not had spontaneous hot flushes. I changed from a beta-blocker to Digoxin and then Verapamil - both these produced similar symptoms with exercise. Now fortunately after a successful catheter ablation have got off all that sort of thing and haven't had more than 'normal' feeling hot and sweaty with exercise. It seems like anything that messes with your heart rate either stabilising it or stopping it from beating too fast could induce feeling hot because the body's normal cooling mechanisms can't work as they should so excess heat can't be effectively dissipated - well that's my idea anyway.
Hi Slothbristol, Just wondering how the Ablation went? How was it to have it? Were you sedated? How are you feeling since? And how long ago did you have it? I may have to have one sometime. I have A Fibb on and off for 5 yrs now. Just started on Flecinide last Tuesday but feeling quite shaky on it.Was on Bisoprolol 2.5mgs but off that now and on Digoxin .125mgs daily. Don't like the sound of an Ablation but like the sound of your results!!
Thank you for you're answers guys n gals...I find it so interesting coming on here each day, reading and learning from all the questions and blogs...I'm actually off the bisoprolol, I begged my gp to let me come off it, the tiredness has gone thankfully, but to suddenly start the hot flushes is ....hot !!! But I'm guessing its not the bisoprolol but just my age....I must say I think I would rather the flushes than how I felt when on biso..it was awful...love to you all and keep well xx
Ive bee thinking about asking to come off bisoprolol, but I seem to have become dependent on the bloody stuff!! I miss a day and start getting missed beats then AF. Im sure its in my head and that a placebo would have the same effect.
Have never had hot flushes though!
I am interested to hear about your hot flushes on Bisoprolol as I thought I was unusual having told my GP and Cardiologist who both dismissed the Bisoprolol as the cause. I am 65 and sailed through the menopause with few problems. I took Bisoprolol for about 13 months having been diagnosed with A/F in April 2012. I had regular hot flushes, particularly in bed at night. In May this year I was prescribed a change to Flecanide as the Cardiologist thought it might give better control over A/F episodes but after 24 hours I had a TIA and spent 9 days hospitalised. During this time I was changed to Sotolol and finally prescribed Warfarin which they are still trying to get in range. I was hoping that the Sotolol would mean I was free of the hot flushes which hasn't been the case unfortunately but I definitely get them less often and not as severely. So I am pretty sure Bisoprolol was a major cause for me, however my attitude was that I needed them to control the A/F so it was a small price to pay. As I have read so often on this excellent forum, different meds. suit different people and a lot is down to trial and error.
Thank you to all the contributors who help to make this frustrating condition a little easier to understand and live with. It certainly gives me a lot of support, advice and knowledge which inform my communications with the 'medical experts' !
I take 10mg bisoprolol daily also 32mg candesartan and although I don`t get hot flushes, I do feel very tired most of the time.
I started the power surges within days of taking Bisoprolol, I sailed through the menopause with very few problems so this came as a bit of a shock.... it is saving on heating bills though!!
Glad to see the original post as wondering why all the hot flushes and only been on bisoprolol 4 days !!!
In answer to your question a year ago, YES I believe it can!
I am 58 (female) and had thought I was past the worst of the menopause, hot flushes which had been quite bad a few years ago were almost non existent. Then 3 months ago started on 2.5mg Bisoprolol after being diagnosed with AF and am once again suffering intense hot flushes 4 or 5 times a day, as well as night sweats! So much so that I am going to ask my GP to take me off it. AF I can live with (probably) Hot flushes are making me miserable.
