Hi everyone I posted in here that I started on bisoprolol in December for my recently diagnosed Afib. Anyway 4 months on i am being weaned of it as it caused a lot of problems. This is by agreement with my doctor. I was on 3.75mg, reduced that to half for a few weeks then reduced that again in half for a week. This is the 2nd day not taking it. As I have been coming off it the withdrawal has been horrendous, insomnia I have now not slept for 2 weeks. The worse thing is the shortness of breath. I did not have shortness of breath at all before I started on this medication but It got worse the longer I was on it. At the moment I cannot lie down as my breathing becomes erratic. Has anyone else had these side effects during withdrawl?
Bisoprolol Withdrawl: Hi everyone I... - Atrial Fibrillati...
Bisoprolol Withdrawl
Lots of us have had withdrawal issues when stopping bisoprolol. I had a horrible time with headaches, brain fog, palpitations, flu like feeling etc etc. It took weeks before I felt free of it
Exactly same Mikee, cut mine down to 1.25 now for last 6-8 weeks, was going to taper further but might just wait with current stuff going on. Worst drug ever to come off, I had all those symptoms above when dropping down to this low dose now. Can't wait to be off it.
Hope your doing well mate and all is good.
I was wondering how you were doing when I was typing the reply. I think I'd be like you too and not want to rock the boat at the moment.
We are OK at the moment thanks, just trying to take it one day at a time.
All the best
Mike
Been loads better since I dropped from 2.5 mate to the 1.25, doing 5 mile a day on the bike atm, 20mins out, and get my breath back loads, and pulse has settled to 65-70 after it lifted a couple of weeks, the panic feelings and flu stuff wasn't good but it passes quick enough,as you say ilnler it settle with present stuff going on, feel tip top at present.
Same here mate, just look forward to tomorrow and stay out of the way all anyone can do. Take care mate good to hear your all well.
Ian.
Thanks for the reply. It helps to see on here that everyone has these problems. Agreed it is an awful drug to come off. You think you are on a low dose and it won’t affect you but gosh was I wrong. The doctors just say oh after 2-3 days it will be out of your system
They said the same to me Tilly, and even when I went back and objected they were patronising in "well if it makes you feel less anxious we can let you reduce gradually" thankfully I'd seen Mikee and a few others have same issues.
It's a bit wobbly I'd say 3-4 weeks per drop in dosage , now after 8 weeks I don't feel anything at all , just got the rest of the way to go, slowly again . So don't feel alone or listen to GP saying oh there aren't any withdrawal symptoms associated with this, we are all different and I'm quite stoich, so it does affect even those strong willed.
Stay in there and give yourself time itl be fine as long as you are ready for some bumps and quiet time needed.
Hope you manage it like I have, feel so much better now on lowest dose, not tired, loads of energy and heart works a lot better when exercising.
Ian.
Hello, I have PAF for 12 years, I went on many different meds but I am now on Verapamil, very happy with this. AF is horrible , pulse irrational and leaves you so tired and very scared. Hope you get a compatible medication....
