My pharmacist & my doctor have started me on 5 mg Warfarin daily but have said I will continue with my Aspirin 75mg daily for the time being until I am in my therapeutic range. My INR at the moment is 1.2 with an eventual target of 2 - 3 from which an expected first ablation will be done. The aspirin question is based on many comments on this forum regarding aspirin being a no go when on Warfarin. Any thoughts would be appreciated thank you.

Query regarding taking Warfarin and Aspirin on a daily basis.
I am on warfarin and 75 mg aspirin as recommended by my cardiologist as I have been on aspirin and numerous other drugs since diagnosed with severe coronary artery disease (inoperable) 18 years ago now. I have been on warfarin for 1 month after diagnosis of Afib in April. I believe I have to stay on the aspirin for its antiplatelet properties and warfarin as it is an anticoagulant .
Thanks Chris,
I have been on Aspirin for about seven years due to a family history of heart disease and suspect it's just precautionary as I don't think I have any artery disease as such. Like you I have only been on Warfarin coming up to three weeks now. Started on 2mg but now increased to 5mg to try to lift my INR. Again thanks for your reply as all answers are welcome. :-
Aspirin is an anti-platelet so thins the blood but it isn't an anticoagulant.. If you have other cardiac problems than AF it is quite often both are prescribed. The aspirin is of no value in stroke prevention for AF but can have uses for other heart conditions.
Hope that helps.
