To take Aspirin or not?

I have two stents in my heart which were put there four years ago. Now I have been diagnosed with AF and told to go on Warfarin and Digoxin. The Cardiologist said to stay on the Aspirin for my stents (having cancelled Clopidogrel), but my GP said I should not be on Aspirin so now he is going to check with the Cardiologist. Any views?

Hi Scooty

Depends on the dosage really, warfarin and aspirin do two different things, and the aspirin is diagnosed mainly for the heart problems and not the rythym and rate challenges of A Fib. Aspirin is not a good anti-coagulant, it's an anti-platelet drug.

I take warfarin and 75mg aspirin daily, the aspirin is due to a high calcium count in my heart found from the scan, it's not that unusual but if they are keeping you on high dosage aspirin, then I would agree with your GP.

Hi Scooty

Then I think your Cardio might tell your GP to keep you on it, if you have had stents then this is usually due to calcification and the aspirin will help to keep any further challenges down, and this is the usual dosage for that

I would anticipate staying on aspirin at that dosage.

No statins yet? that often comes with this situation just as a preventative as well (yes I am on those too)

Be well

My brother in law who has a carbon fibre mitral valve is on both so yes it is quite common depending on other conditions. So long as the INR is correct it shouldn't make any difference.

I can only echo what Beancounter has posted. Couldn't' have put in better myself. I am on both for the same reasons.
