genetic testing PROMISE registry

Hey guys. I was invited to join the PROMISE registry although I don’t really know how they found me but you may be able to volunteer. Anyways, a benefit is you get a free genetic test done by Color Diagnostics in CA. They did am awesome job and were very nice. I am sure many others are available as this is a growing field. For example, the most common BRCA2 variants can significantly increase the risk for PCa from 11% to 19-61% by age 80. I tested positive for BRCA2. This has two implications. One is that treatments options may be altered including the use of a PARP inhibitor. Second, it may make sense to inform siblings and cousins to get a test. Clearly you should NOT scare anyone because this does not mean they are getting cancer but the information can be very useful and prompt awareness and testing. 23 and Me is bankrupt but don’t despair because their test was wholly inadequate anyways.

Keep up the good fight!

Thanks, I did that test back in 2021 and gave it to my docs. No mutations at that time.

We did this too. It’s one more tool for the oncologists and will likely lead to another discovery as to why men get advanced cancer. Thanks for sharing.

MelodyCat . Several questions . I live near Toronto Canada . The major labs , LifeLabs for example , stoppedd performing this test . Why , I don't know .

Can a Canadian join PROMISE and have this test ? Do you require a referral ? and finally . Will they perform this test for BRCA 1 & 2 if you already have low / intermediate prostate cancer ?

I understand if you have BRCA 2 it can accelerate the spread of the cancer .

Thanks for your reply .

FYI

How much does color.com cost? (from Google Smoogle)

The cost of a Color Hereditary Cancer Test is $249, and the Color Extended test is $299 plus shipping and handling.

Here's a more detailed breakdown:

Hereditary Cancer Test:

This test analyzes genes associated with hereditary forms of heart disease and hereditary cancer risk for various cancers, and genes that impact medication processing. It costs $249.

Color Extended:

This test is a more comprehensive version and costs $299 plus shipping and handling.

Insurance Coverage:

Many commercial health plans cover this test, and if a patient does not have insurance or the test is not covered, Color can bill the patient $249.
