I participate in another prostate cancer forum. One recent thread focused on Akeega. I had not heard of this this (new) drug and found out that it is used in certain advanced prostate cancer cases. Therefore, I turned to this forum to find out more, but much to my surprise found only one post. I wonder why.
Yes, it is a relatively new drug, FDA approved only last year for mCRPC patients with a mutation in one of the BRCA genes.
What is AKEEGA® (niraparib and abiraterone acetate)?
AKEEGA® is a prescription medicine used with prednisone to treat adults with prostate cancer:
who have a certain type of abnormal BRCA gene, and
whose prostate cancer has spread to other parts of the body and no longer responds to medical or surgical treatment that lowers testosterone (metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer).
Your healthcare provider will perform a test to make sure AKEEGA® is right for you.
It is not known if AKEEGA® is safe and effective in females.
It is not known if AKEEGA® is safe and effective in children.
