Dear all , My father having advanced prostate cancer is in critical condition. His both legs are partially paralysed (he can move them, feel anything on it but unable to stand ), as soon he try to stand ,he fell down . This condition arises in mid of his radiation treatments for pain relief . Doctors are of view that it cannot be due to radiation and ordered MRI scan .

Attached the image of MRI scan , there are compression at two spots which is causing this paralysis type issue .

My radiation oncologist said that to radiate the spots is best option.

I met two neuro and spine surgeon, they suggested surgery and implant at pelvic area, but RO was against any surgery, as he told that whole spine is covered with tumour and surgery will not do anything.

Requesting dear members to guide , how to treat this partial paralysis issue .

Thanks for your kind replies

Is radiation followed by surgical fixation a possibility?

Met another neuro surgeon today , he prescribed 24mg/day dexamethasone, if not work then injection of dexamethasone .Last option is surgery, and outcome of surgery he is not much hopeful .

A diffficult question. If it were me, given the choice between definite progressive paralysis and the possibility of stabilising for a few months, I might opt for local radiotherapy covered by dexamethasone to counteract local swelling during therapy. He might or might not require surgical stabilisation but that depends on how much local bone destruction there has been.
