what do people know about it? The lady who draws my blood at Quest ( whose own husband has PSA of 10) said it’s the hot new thing at Quest. They’ve only offered it for a month or two. Has done connections to Cleveland Clinic

I’m not convinced we need yet another PSA test. What new benefit could it possibly have?

I'm not familiar with this test, but here is what ChatGPT had to say -

The ISOPSA (Isoform Prostate-Specific Antigen) test is a specialized diagnostic blood test used to help detect prostate cancer more accurately than traditional PSA (Prostate-Specific Antigen) tests. The total PSA test measures the amount of PSA, a protein produced by the prostate, in the bloodstream. Elevated levels can indicate prostate issues, including cancer, benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), or inflammation.

What sets the ISOPSA test apart is that it evaluates specific isoforms (variations) of the PSA protein, giving it better accuracy in distinguishing between cancerous and non-cancerous conditions. This can help reduce the number of unnecessary biopsies by improving the ability to detect prostate cancer in its early stages.

Thank you I use perplexity, and it also said good things.

More than 63’s question, I wonder why it’s not Front Page news

Well maybe because it is not valid enough to define the actual level of cancer and you still need to do a biopsy even with its increased accuracy. Curious if Quest also published or lowered the PSA ranges based on age groups for this new test as compared to the old method to compensate for its increased performance.

Or is it simply a marketing tool!

ISOPSA testing probably costs more, so that will raise insurance questions. Also is there the slightest chance it would contraindicate a biopsy, given a standard PSA # high enough? I seriously doubt any urologist would say sure lets not do a biopsy. If a patient dreads a normal TRUS biopsy there is the perineal option. Biopsies can have their own accuracy issues but then there are MRI's and the ultimate pylarify? PSMA PET/CT scans.

The important thing is to find doctors you can relate well with and invest them with a lot of trust, and pray pray pray.

Not what you're looking for?
